NEW STEAM CENTRE ON THE WAY AT THORNBURY HIGH SCHOOL

Thornbury High School are steaming ahead with Stage 2 of their masterplan to deliver a new Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics Centre for students.

Member for Northcote, Kat Theophanous, today announced that Brand Architects have been appointed to design the $14.9 million upgrade at the school.

Funding for this exciting project was announced last year as part of the Andrews Labor Government’s pandemic recovery budget. It follows the completion in 2020 of a brand new Gymnasium and Performing Arts Centre at the school.

Ms Theophanous offered her thanks and congratulations to Principal Michael Keenan, staff, students and the Thornbury High School Redevelopment Group who have worked closely with her to secure funding for this critical project.

The new facilities will ensure Thornbury High can build on their strong track record of achievement in STEAM, with modern learning spaces that challenge and inspire students to achieve their best.

Thornbury High’s upgrades are just one of nine significant capital works projects across the electorate which are now complete, funded or underway. Since 2018, the electorate has seen over $70 million secured for school upgrades.

These projects are part of the Victorian Government’s unprecedented $9 billion investment in schools across Victoria, delivering 1,600 school upgrades - creating more than 10,000 construction jobs.

The Labor Government is building the Education State to ensure that every student can access a great local school and get a quality education.
