MARGO HONEYMAN
Ms THEOPHANOUS (Northcote): I rise to pay tribute to the life of Margo Honeyman, my mother-in-law. Margo passed away on 20 November 2019 after a long and courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.
Margo, you lived with the light of curiosity burning inside you. Whether it was the groundbreaking medical research into diabetes to which you dedicated your career, your flair for art, poetry and song or your love of adventure and all things esoteric, you were ever evolving, always opening your mind to new ideas, new perspectives.
Born in 1943 and always a trailblazer, you pursued your love of biology in the 1960s at a time when women in science were far from the norm. I will never forget your gentle encouragement, your unwavering warmth and your infectious humour. Even in your darkest moments you shined. You lived with a full heart, seeking and creating meaning, finding beauty and interest in the world and people around you.
You were adored by your husband, Len, and were far more than a stepmum to his five children and 12 grandchildren—their deep love for you is a testament to who you were. In my eyes your greatest achievement of all was the son your raised, my husband, Julian—a generous, clever, loving partner to me and a beautiful father to your two granddaughters. I know that you will live forever on in their bright, comedic, inquisitive minds.
Farewell, Margo. You will be missed immensely.
