Hi, I’m Kat Theophanous - the Labor Member of Parliament for Northcote in the Victorian Legislative Assembly.
Investment: $5.35 million
Status: Underway
Thornbury will soon be home to Australia’s first dedicated Aboriginal Women and Girls Sport and Wellness Centre, thanks to a $5.3 million investment from the Andrews Labor Government.
This project will create a new home for local champions the Fitzroy Stars and will deliver new AFL grade female friendly change rooms, as well as dedicated spaces for health and wellbeing services, education, sports training, social areas and a gym.
Most importantly, this centre will be a safe space to support the empowerment of Aboriginal women and girls to achieve sporting, cultural, social, political and economic equality.
As the Member for Northcote, I have been honoured to work closely with the Fitzroy Stars, the Aborigines Advancement League and Hands on Health Australia to secure this outcome.
