Hi, I’m Kat Theophanous - the Labor Member of Parliament for Northcote in the Victorian Legislative Assembly.
Investment: $17.6 Million
Status: Funding Committed
In late 2022 I joined the Thornbury Primary assembly to share the wonderful news that a re-elected Labor Government will invest $17.6 million to bring our vision for TPS alive.
This will mean upgrades to the Library and Main Building - plus a brand new two-story Prep and Year 1 Learning Centre and Community Hub to build connections within and beyond the school.
It’s a major modernisation that will completely elevate the school. And it will give Thornbury kids the world-class learning spaces they deserve.
This is all part of the long-term plan the school community and I have been working on – and I couldn’t be more grateful for the dedicated parents, staff and students who have backed this.
The 2023-24 State Budget has delivered us the funding we need to get started with the planning and design for these major works - so stay tuned as we work to deliver on this exciting school infrastructure project!

Thornbury Primary families have been calling for upgrades to the bathroom block for a long time.
In 2022, I was able to share the exciting news that TPS will receive a Major Capital Works Fund grant to refurbish the dreaded old bathrooms and give students the brand new facilities they need and deserve.
A big thank you to the Thornbury Primary leadership team and all the families who lend their voices and worked with me towards this outcome.
Investment: $200,000

Thornbury Primary is already an incredible school, with fantastic teachers, supportive staff and a close knit school community – and we are making it even better with a brand new inclusive play ground.
When Thornbury Primary shared with me their vision for the project – I knew I wanted to help and was incredible pleased to support their application for this funding.
In total there are 74 projects across the state that will share in over $12.5 million under Round 6 of the Labor Government’s Inclusive Schools Fund.
Thornbury Primary will receive $200,000 to create an inclusive playground, including new equipment and rubber surfacing.
The Inclusive Schools Fund is helping government schools better cater for the social and educational needs of all young people, including those with a disability or additional needs. This is the sixth round of funding.
Since the Fund was established by the Labor Government in 2015, more than 300 creative projects to build inclusive learning spaces and inclusive playgrounds have been announced.
