HIGH STREET TRAM STOPS SET TO RECEIVE ACCESSIBILITY UPGRADES
The Andrews Labor Government is providing more accessible tram stops for all passengers, with planning to get underway on three key inner city Melbourne tram corridors, including Thornbury.
The $5.5 million project, funded in the 2022/23 Victorian Budget, will involve undertaking critical planning work on three tram corridors, including the development of designs, planning approvals, environmental assessments and traffic studies.
An initial three corridors have been selected for this planning and investigation work, including High Street in the Thornbury corridor.
This also encompasses stops on High Street, Northcote, from Separation Street north.
Other corridors selected include Smith Street, Fitzroy and Droop Street, Footscray.
Melbourne’s 1,600 tram stops are grouped into corridors in a new approach to help streamline the investigation, planning and delivery of accessibility upgrades.
Throughout the process, local councils, accessibility groups, local traders and the broader community will be consulted extensively to ensure the best outcome for all passengers.
Since 2014, the Labor Government has delivered significant accessibility improvements to Victoria’s public transport network, including the construction of 44 new or upgraded train stations, 41 level access tram stops, and hundreds of new and accessible trains, trams and buses.
