KOORIE EXCELLENCE RECOGNISED IN EDUCATION AND TRAINING

The Andrews Labor Government in partnership with the Victorian Aboriginal Education Association has recognised leaders in Koorie education and employment with the announcement of the winners at the 2019 Wurreker Awards. Minister for Training and Skills and Higher Education Gayle Tierney last night congratulated the nominees and winners of the annual awards in Northcote, which recognise the outstanding individuals, organisations and communities that support Koorie people to thrive in vocational education, training (VET) and employment.

Some of year’s winners include:

  • Gippsland & East Gippsland Aboriginal Cooperative

  • Koorie Youth Engagement Network

  • La Trobe Regional Hospital

  • Victorian Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation Inc. (VACCHO)

  • Koorie Youth Engagement Network

  • Rail Infrastructure Alliance

The awards are hosted by the Victorian Aboriginal Education Association Incorporated (VAEAI). Koorie people participating in VET are supported by the Wurreker Strategy and Marrung: Aboriginal Education Plan 2016-2026.

The Labor Government, in partnership with VAEAI, has developed the Marrung: Aboriginal Education Plan 2016-2026. The plan aims to improve learning and development opportunities for Koorie people accessing education and training, and to support Koorie Victorians to achieve their career aspirations.

VAEAI deliver a range of initiatives and programs which support Koorie Victorians to access education and training in a culturally responsive learning environment.
