Hi, I’m Kat Theophanous - the Labor Member of Parliament for Northcote in the Victorian Legislative Assembly.

BETTER ROAD SAFETY FOR NORMANBY AVENUE

BETTER ROAD SAFETY FOR NORMANBY AVENUE

Thornbury is an incredible place to live - and we are making it even better with road safety improvements along Normanby Avenue.

Local residents have raised concerns about drivers speeding through the 40km/h speed zone in this area. And the road incident data backs this up.

We have listened and are putting up new electronic speed signs which flash during peak school hours to remind drivers to slow down - making Normanby Avenue a safer place for school children, pedestrians and cyclists.

VicRoads will commence works in early May, along the stretch between St Georges Road and Clapham Street. There will be some temporary lane closures as we get on with improving these signs.

If you’re travelling through the area, I'd encourage you to keep an eye out for changed traffic conditions, plan ahead and allow for an extra five minutes travel time.

This project is part of the State and Commonwealth jointly funded $19.5 million Pedestrian and Safer Schools Program building blitz at intersections across the state.

It's a fantastic outcome for our area - one which will improve safety and make the school zone on Normanby Avenue more effective for children, families and road users.
