Northcote Clubs Score Sport Grants

Five grassroots sport clubs and organisations in Northcote are set to bolster their coaching skills, administration expertise, or score new sports equipment thanks to more than almost $7,000 from the Andrews Labor Government.

Member for Northcote, Kat Theophanous today announced the latest successful applicants from Northcote in recent rounds of the Victorian Government’s Sporting Club Grants Program.

The grants provide clubs with up to $1,000 for new uniforms and equipment, up to $5,000 for training coaches, officials and volunteers, up to $5,000 to improve club operational effectiveness and up to $5,000 to help sports get back on their feet after the pandemic.

Grant recipients include Westgarth Baseball Club who scored $960 to purchase uniforms for new players and Alphington Football Club which is set to receive $959 for a junior development squad and for girls U13 equipment.

Northcote City Soccer Club has picked up $1,000 for first aid kits, St George's Antiochian Orthodox Church Association is receiving $1,000 for a basketball academy and Northcote Junior Football Club will be granted $1,000 for uniforms for a new women’s team as well as $2,000 for hygiene essentials and additional equipment.

The Sporting Club Grants Program is part of the Victorian Government’s commitment to making sport more accessible and inclusive, stimulating local economies and increasing local participation as coronavirus restrictions are lifted.

Since 2014, the Victorian Government has provided more than 5,150 sporting club grants totalling more than $7 million to clubs across the state.
