Hi, I’m Kat Theophanous - the Labor Member of Parliament for Northcote in the Victorian Legislative Assembly.

NORTHCOTE ELECTORATE - Alphington Link

Ms THEOPHANOUS (Northcote): My question is to the Minister for Roads and Road Safety, and it relates to the Alphington link project. Minister, what steps are being taken by the government to deliver on our commitment to construct the Farm Road link connecting Alphington to the Darebin-Yarra trail. This spectacular piece of infrastructure was made possible by $18 million from the Labor government, creating hundreds of kilometres of off-road shared trails along our beautiful waterways. But Alphington residents have long raised concerns that they have no safe and direct way to access this incredible bike and pedestrian trail despite it running straight through their suburb. In 2017 we committed to building a new local link, and since being elected I have been working within government towards this goal. The most direct route for the Alphington link goes through a parcel of land privately owned by the Latrobe Golf Club. The Department of Transport has been in discussions with them for some time. The community has been patient. Minister, this safe connection would make such a difference for residents. We welcome any further information you can provide about what is being done to progress the link.
